Getting to Know AWS Cloud Platform, CloudFormation, Terraform, and Using Infrastructure as Code

Overview

Most enterprises have started to move some or all of their infrastructure to cloud platforms, with Amazon Web Services (AWS) having the largest market share. This course will provide an introduction to the AWS platform with a focus on some of the most commonly used services. The second half of the course will focus on provisioning infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code tools: AWS CloudFormation and Terraform. The course will be a mixture of lecture and labs.

  • Overview of common cloud concepts that are common to multiple cloud platforms
  • Introduction to the services offered by AWS
  • AWS security concepts
  • Hands on setting up an AWS Account and best practices
  • Compute options: EC2, ECS and Lambda
  • Lab: launch a Linux EC2 running NGINX
  • Autoscaling and Load Balancers
  • Relational and non-relational database options
  • Infrastructure as Code concepts
  • Lab: Infrastructure as Code using AWS CloudFormation
  • Lab: Infrastructure as Code using Terraform

Instructor Bio

Andrew MayAndrew May is the Cloud Solutions Lead and a Senior Solutions Architect at Leading EDJE, a Columbus based consultancy company. He has a number of AWS Certifications and is an AWS Academy instructor at Columbus State Community College. Andrew has 5 years AWS experience with a focus on DevOps.

  • Morning session: 8:30 AM to 12 at noon
  • Lunch break: 12:00 to 1:00 PM
  • Afternoon session: 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM
